Scrambling up this rocky outcrop above Llanbedr feels like proper Welsh hill walking without the full mountain commitment. The peak rises sharply from the surrounding farmland, offering a decent workout that'll get your heart pumping but won't destroy your knees. From the top, you get cracking views across the Snowdonia foothills and out towards Cardigan Bay on a clear day.

Walkers who fancy a challenge without tackling Snowdon itself will find this a satisfying half-day adventure. The route up is steep and rocky in places - definitely not suitable for pushchairs or anyone with mobility issues. Kids over eight should manage fine, though younger ones might struggle with the scrambling sections.

Allow about two hours for the round trip, including time to catch your breath and take in the views at the summit. Early morning or late afternoon light makes for the best photography, and you'll avoid any crowds that way too.

Shell Island and the various caravan parks like Hendre Mynach are all within easy driving distance, so you could bag this peak and still be building sandcastles by lunchtime. It's free to climb, naturally, though parking near the base might cost a few quid depending on where you leave the car.
