Mynydd Llanbedr

The walk up Mynydd Llanbedr is one of those hills that looks modest on the map but delivers far more than you'd expect. Starting from the village of Llanbedr itself, the climb is steady rather than brutal - probably forty minutes to the summit if you're moving at a decent pace. The real reward isn't the peak itself, which is fairly bare moorland, but what unfolds beneath you once you're up there. You get proper views across the Snowdonia massif to the north and down towards the coast and Shell Island to the west. On a clear day, it's absolutely cracking.

This is a hill for walkers and anyone who enjoys a proper Welsh hillside without the tourist infrastructure of the bigger peaks. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the exposed moorland a bit dull on the descent. There's nothing commercial about it - no cafe, no visitor centre, no charge. Just you, the weather, and the landscape.

If you're based at one of the caravan parks clustered around Llanbedr - Shell Island is the standout if you've got a tent - then Mynydd Llanbedr makes a solid morning or afternoon outing. The proximity to Rhaeadr Nantcol Waterfalls (barely a mile away) means you could easily combine both in a single day. Go on a day when the cloud's lifted from the peaks. When it's in, you'll see nothing but grey.
