Cors Llangloffan / Llangloffan Fen

The fen at Llangloffan is one of those places that rewards you for getting off the main road - a proper wetland nature reserve that sits just outside Haverfordwest and feels a world away from the bustle. It's boggy, it's muddy, it's genuinely alive with birdlife if you're there at the right time of year.

What you're actually doing here is walking through wet grassland and scrub where rare plants thrive and water birds nest undisturbed. Bring binoculars and patience. It's not dramatic like the Preseli Hills nearby, and it won't knock your socks off visually, but if you're into wildlife or you fancy a gentle ramble without the crowds, this delivers. The paths can be waterlogged even days after rain - proper wellies essential, not those flimsy things from the supermarket.

Birders will have the best time here, particularly in spring and autumn when migrants pass through. Families with young children might find an hour enough before the mud and lack of facilities wear thin. It's free to access, which is brilliant, and there's no formal infrastructure to worry about.

If you're camped at Preseli Glamping or Trellyn Woodland just down the road, this makes a sensible morning outing - close enough not to burn petrol, different enough from a typical park walk. Just don't expect tea rooms or benches. Come for the wildlife, come for the quiet. Leave the Instagram expectations at home.
