Llangloffan Fen National Nature Reserve (Natural Resources Wales)

The fen itself is what stops you in your tracks - a wetland that feels genuinely wild, even though it's only a short drive from Haverfordwest. Llangloffan Fen is a National Nature Reserve run by Natural Resources Wales, and it's the sort of place you visit to see what happens when you just let nature get on with it. Orchids, dragonflies, and birds that most of us couldn't name without squinting at a field guide. There are paths through the reserve, though they're not what you'd call manicured - expect boggy ground and proper walking boots as non-negotiable.

Walkers and wildlife enthusiasts will get the most from this. If you're after tidy interpretation boards and a visitor centre, you'll be disappointed. This is fundamentally quiet and unmarked, which is either brilliant or a bit frustrating depending on your mood. I'd give yourself a couple of hours minimum if you want to actually spot something beyond your own footprints. Spring and early summer are cracking times to visit when the orchids are up.

It's free to access, and that matters when you're based at one of the nearby parks - Preseli Glamping and Trellyn Woodland Camping are both within easy reach. The fen works well as a morning walk before heading into Fishguard for lunch, or as a quieter alternative if you've already done the bigger attractions across Pembrokeshire. Not flashy, but genuinely valuable if you care about this sort of thing.
