Melin Tregwynt

A working woollen mill tucked into the Pembrokeshire countryside near Haverfordwest, Melin Tregwynt is one of those places that still actually does what it was built to do. You can watch weavers at the looms - real cloth being made on machines that have been running here for generations. The mill shop sells blankets, scarves, and fabric woven on-site, which is the proper way to do it.

It's worth stopping if you're into textiles or industrial heritage, though don't expect a museum experience with interpretation panels and a café. This is a working space first. You'll see the looms, smell the lanolin, and get a sense of what rural manufacturing actually looks like when it hasn't been turned into a visitor attraction. Twenty minutes here is usually enough unless you're genuinely keen on weaving techniques.

The location - a few miles south of Haverfordwest - makes it a reasonable add-on if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Preseli Glamping or Trellyn Woodland Camping. It's not a destination on its own, but it breaks up a day nicely between the coast and the market town. Spring and early summer are best for visiting, when you're more likely to catch the mill in full operation. Winter months are quieter.

Check opening hours before you go - mills don't always stick to regular schedules - and bring cash if you want to buy something. It's a genuine working place that reminds you rural Wales still makes things.
