You walk around the perimeter on decent paths with viewing platforms built in at sensible spots - no scrambling required, which is good news if you're here with restless kids or elderly relatives.

Best visited early morning or late afternoon when birds are active and the light's doing something interesting. Bring binoculars if you're serious about identifying what's about; without them you'll spend a lot of time squinting at distant shapes. The reserve is genuinely free and feels pleasantly low-key compared to some nature reserves that charge a tenner just to step through the gate.
