About Froggatt Pinnacle

Scrambling up the gritstone edge above Froggatt, you'll find one of the Peak District's most rewarding viewpoints without the crowds that plague Stanage or Curbar. The Pinnacle itself is a proper rocky outcrop that juts out from the main escarpment, giving you sweeping views across the Derwent Valley towards Chatsworth and beyond.

Climbers know this spot well - the gritstone here offers some cracking routes if you're into that sort of thing. But walkers get the real prize. From the top, you can see for miles across the valley floor, with Bakewell nestled in the distance and the White Peak rolling away to the south.

It's a bit of a walk to reach the Pinnacle, mind you. The path from Froggatt village isn't signposted particularly well, and you'll need decent boots for the scramble up the final section. Allow a good hour and a half round trip if you're taking your time.

Families with older kids who can handle rough ground will love this spot. The views are spectacular on a clear day, though like most Peak District edges, it can be properly grim in bad weather. Best tackled as a morning walk before the afternoon crowds arrive - if there are any. From campsites around Bakewell like Chatsworth Park or North Lees, it's an easy drive to the village and a lovely way to start exploring the eastern moors.
