Guiting Power Recreation/Play Ground

The recreation ground at Guiting Power is one of those proper Cotswold spaces that locals know and visitors often miss. It's essentially a nature reserve wrapped around a working village play area - so you've got woodland walks threading through what's ostensibly a kids' playground, which sounds odd until you actually visit and realise the appeal.

The real draw is the mix. Children get swings and climbing frames, yes, but there's genuine habitat here too - woodland paths that fork off into quieter sections where you might spot birds or just find a bit of peace away from the climbing equipment. It's free to access and takes maybe 45 minutes to an hour to properly wander through, depending on how much mucking about the kids do. No café, no facilities to speak of, so bring what you need.

Walkers and nature types will find it useful rather than thrilling - it's small enough that you won't spend a full afternoon here unless you've got very young children. The real value is as a morning stop if you're based at Bourton-on-the-Water Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite just down the road, or as a break between exploring the bigger Cotswolds walks nearby.

Guiting Power village itself is properly tucked away, which means the ground stays quiet. That's either a selling point or a drawback depending on what you want. If you're after somewhere to let the kids run while you get five minutes' peace, and you don't mind a humble little woodland walk, it's worth the detour. Don't expect anything fancy.
