Hare Knoll

The walk up Hare Knoll from Skipton is exactly the sort of modest Yorkshire fell that rewards you without demanding much in return. It's not a dramatic peak - nothing like the Lake District showstoppers - but that's rather the point. The summit sits at just over 300 metres, and the views across the Dales are genuinely lovely, especially on a clear day when you can see proper distances.

Most people tackle this as a hour-long circuit from the town itself, which makes it ideal if you're staying at one of the nearby campsites like Olicana Park or Catgill Farm and want to stretch your legs without committing to a full day in the hills. Families with children aged eight or above will find it manageable, though younger kids might grumble on the steeper sections. The paths are generally clear and well-walked.

There's no visitor centre or facilities at the top - just moorland, grass, and space. You won't find crowds here, which is refreshing. The real appeal is the combination: you get hill-walking satisfaction, proper views, and you're back in Skipton town centre within a couple of hours. Perfect if you want to pair it with a browse through the market or a coffee before heading back to your pitch.

Go on a dry day if possible. When it's damp, the paths become muddy and the whole thing feels less appealing. Summer afternoons give you the best light and the longest window before the light goes.
