Helsby Methodist Church

A solid red-brick Methodist chapel that's been quietly serving Helsby since the 19th century, this church sits just above the village near Frodsham. It's the kind of place that catches your eye if you're walking the local paths - proper Victorian nonconformist architecture, all no-nonsense functionality and honest craftsmanship.

There's not much to do inside unless there's a service on, and honestly, it's more a landmark for walkers and history types than a destination in itself. The real appeal is what surrounds it. Helsby sits on decent walking terrain, with views across the Cheshire plain, and the church marks a natural point on various routes through the area. You'll get perhaps twenty minutes of interest if you stop to have a look round the exterior and read any information boards.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - The Ridgeway is closest at 1.4 miles, or Delamere Forest Camping if you fancy somewhere larger - this works as a pleasant detour on a longer walk rather than a trip in itself. The village has a bit of character, and you could easily combine it with exploring Helsby Hill just across the way, which offers proper views worth the effort.

Best visited on a clear day when the walking's good. Don't expect to spend long here, but it's a nice piece of local history to stumble upon rather than ignore.
