Lamb's Leer Cavern

Finding this cave requires a proper sense of adventure - and a good map. Lamb's Leer Cavern sits tucked away in the Somerset countryside near Wells, far from the tourist crowds that flock to Cheddar Gorge just a few miles south. The entrance is easy to miss unless you know exactly where to look.

Once inside, you'll understand why spelunkers rate this as one of Somerset's more interesting underground experiences. The limestone passages wind deeper than you'd expect, with chambers that open up dramatically from narrow crawlways. It's properly wild caving - no electric lights or guided tours here.

Serious cavers will love the challenge, but families with young children should probably stick to Wookey Hole instead. You'll need torches, suitable clothing, and ideally some caving experience. The rocks can be slippery and the passages genuinely tight in places.
