Llanrwst Library

You'll find this Victorian library right in the heart of Llanrwst, a proper little market town in the Conwy Valley. It's not the sort of place you'd trek across North Wales for specifically, but if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Maenan Abbey is just 2.4 miles away - it's worth an hour's poke around.

The building itself is the main draw: all red brick and period charm, it feels like stepping into the 1880s. Inside, the shelves are packed with a decent local history section, which matters if you're genuinely interested in what happened in this corner of Wales. The librarians know their stuff and aren't the sort to shush you for breathing too loudly.

It's free to visit and to browse, though you'll need to join if you want to borrow. Opening hours are a touch fiddly - closed Sundays, opens at 10 on Wednesdays but 9:30 on weekdays - so check before you go. Families with older kids won't find much to hold attention for long, but walkers passing through Snowdonia will appreciate the detailed maps and local walking guides. Half an hour maximum unless you're genuinely after something specific.

Truth is, Llanrwst itself is the appeal - nice café, decent chippy, the river walk. The library fits into a morning in town rather than standing alone as a reason to visit. If you're staying at Erw Glas Glamping or Snowdonia Glamping further out, you might drive in anyway; the library's a pleasant fifteen minutes of shelter if the weather turns.
