Mynydd Llanybydder

A modest hill rather than a dramatic peak, Mynydd Llanybydder rises above the rolling farmland between Lampeter and the Teifi Valley. The walk up takes the better part of an hour depending on your fitness and which route you take from the village of Llanybydder itself. Once you're at the top, the reward is a proper 360-degree view across Carmarthenshire - nothing that'll make your jaw drop, but on a clear day you can see right across the Towy Valley and westward towards the Preseli Hills.

This is one for walkers who like a gentle afternoon outing rather than fell-baggers chasing summits. The climb is steady, not steep. Families with kids aged eight upwards will manage it without complaint, though you'll need sturdy boots after rain - the paths get boggy. Allow two to three hours return, including time at the top to eat a sandwich and actually enjoy the view instead of just gasping for breath.

If you're camping at Lampeter Caravan & Camping or one of the other sites within five miles, Mynydd Llanybydder makes an excellent half-day walk that doesn't require driving. The surrounding area is proper quiet - sheep, farmland, and very few other people. Worth the effort if you're based locally and want something different from the coastal walks most visitors chase. Just check the weather forecast first. Wind up here can be a bit bracing.
