Old Warren Wood

Ancient beech and oak dominate this quiet corner of Berkshire, just outside Hungerford. Old Warren Wood is proper woodland - the sort where you actually feel woodland, rather than just walking through neat rows of trees. Paths wind through, mostly well-trodden but genuinely peaceful, and in spring the floor erupts with bluebells that make the effort worthwhile.

It's a walker's spot, straightforward as that. Not massive - you can cover the main routes in an hour or so - but the trees are old enough to feel like they mean something. Some sections are dark and atmospheric even in daylight; others open up to let light filter through. Decent for families who don't mind muddy boots, though it won't hold young children's attention for hours. Dog walkers get plenty of space to let them loose.

The woodland doesn't have the drama of some Berkshire spots - no viewpoints, no water features, just the woods themselves. That's either exactly what you want or it isn't. Free to walk, accessible year-round, though winter can get boggy and summer means more insects.

If you're based at Lorne Hill Farm, Old Warren Wood makes a solid morning or afternoon walk before or after park time. Close enough that you're not losing a chunk of your day getting there. Good pairing if you want to balance proper countryside with the comforts of a decent holiday park. Not a destination in itself, but solid backup on days when you want to leave the site without driving far.
