Row Coppice

A proper woodland walk rather than a manicured tourist spot, Row Coppice sits just outside Shrewsbury and gives you the kind of forest that actually feels like a forest. Beech and oak dominate here, with the occasional flash of bluebells if you time it right in spring. The paths wind through decent undergrowth - it's not flat or boring, and you get proper elevation changes that'll work your legs a bit.

Dog walkers and families with older kids will find their rhythm here. Under-tens might struggle if they're after a destination with a cafe at the end, but anyone after a solid two-hour loop with real woodland atmosphere will leave happy. The cover is dense enough that even on drizzly days it feels quite atmospheric - the light filters through the canopy in that particular way that makes everything feel properly green.

Timing matters. Early morning or midweek keeps the crowds down, though honestly it's not the kind of place that gets hammered anyway. Allow a couple of hours for a decent walk. If you're staying at Mill Farm Holiday Park or Lower Hill Campsite nearby, it's close enough for a proper morning outing without faffing about with transport. Winter's actually rather good here - the leaf litter crunches satisfyingly and visibility through the trees opens things up. Worth the detour if you actually enjoy woodland rather than just wanting something to tick off.
