The tanks here are proper impressive - massive glass enclosures where sharks glide past your face and jellyfish pulse in hypnotic rhythm. SEA LIFE Blackpool is fundamentally an aquarium, and it does what aquariums do well: lets you walk through underwater tunnels and gawp at things you'd never see otherwise. There's a decent collection of tropical fish, rays, seahorses, and the big draws - those sharks cruising overhead while you stand beneath them.

Families with younger children will spend a solid two to three hours here without complaint. Teenagers might find it a touch repetitive, and adults without kids won't be lingering. The interactive touch pools work for the under-tens crowd, and there's usually some talking point about conservation, though frankly you're here to watch the animals, not lecture yourself.

It's touristy, frank as that. Admission isn't free - expect to pay and expect the prices to lean towards the steep side. Pre-booking usually softens the blow a bit. You're in Blackpool proper, so the Tower and seafront are moments away if aquatic life doesn't hold everyone's attention.

If you're staying at Haven Marton Mere or Newton Hall - both under three miles out - this works as a solid wet-weather afternoon, or a proper escape from the usual beach-and-arcades circuit. Combine it with the Pleasure Beach round the corner and you've got a full day sorted. Go mid-week in shoulder season if crowds bother you.
