Shepherd's Hill

The walk up Shepherd's Hill rewards you with views across the Stirling area that justify the short climb from Glasgow's orbit. It's not a major peak - you're looking at a proper hill walk rather than a mountain expedition - but on a clear day the outlook across the Lowlands is genuinely worth the effort.

What you get is straightforward: a hill with a decent vantage point. The climb takes under an hour for most people, and the paths are manageable without specialist kit. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might find it a bit steep for the payoff. The real draw is walkers after a quick leg-stretcher or anyone basing themselves at one of the nearby glamping spots who wants an afternoon's outing without driving miles.

Free access, no facilities to speak of - bring water. Best tackled in decent weather; it's not the sort of place that gets better in the drizzle. The nearby WHW Hotel & Campsite is practically on the doorstep if you're staying locally, while Duncan Family Farms and the other glamping pods scattered around give you a proper base for exploring the Stirling area more broadly.

Honestly, if you're in the region for a week at Loch Lomond Sunset or one of the other parks, slot this in as a morning walk. It'll take two hours door-to-door and you'll feel you've done something rather than just pottering about. Don't trek here specially from Glasgow, though - too many better hills within reach.
