Steyning Round Hill

The walk up Steyning Round Hill is straightforward enough, and the views back towards Horsham and across the Sussex Weald make it worth the effort. You're looking at maybe forty minutes from the car park if you take it easy, longer if you stop to appreciate the countryside properly. It's not a dramatic peak - Sussex doesn't do dramatic - but there's something satisfying about getting to the top and seeing how the land rolls away in every direction.

Walkers will get the most from this one. Families with small children might find it a bit of a slog, though older kids who can manage a steady climb will be fine. It's the kind of place where you actually use your legs rather than just stroll around taking photos. On a clear day the visibility is genuinely good, which doesn't always happen in the South East.

The hill sits nicely within reach of several caravan parks dotted around the area - Washington, The Barn, and Foot of the Downs are all within five miles or so. If you're based at any of those, this makes for a proper half-day outing without needing to drive miles. Combine it with other South Downs walks in the same region and you've got a decent hiking itinerary sorted.

There's no visitor facility at the top, so bring water. Free to access, naturally. Go on a weekday morning if you want peace and quiet - weekends can get a bit busy with locals.
