Summer Hill

Standing 380 metres above sea level, this modest Staffordshire peak offers surprisingly rewarding views across the surrounding countryside without the crowds you'll find at more famous summits. The climb itself is fairly gentle - no scrambling required - making it accessible for families with older children who can manage a decent walk.

From the top, you can see across to the Potteries and beyond on a clear day. It's not spectacular, mind you, but there's something satisfying about bagging a proper peak so close to Stoke-on-Trent. The paths can get muddy after rain, so decent boots are essential.

Walkers will appreciate Summer Hill as part of a longer route through the area, though dedicated fell-baggers might find it a bit tame. Allow an hour or two for the round trip, depending on your starting point and how long you linger at the summit.

The hill works well as a morning activity if you're staying at one of the nearby sites like Intake Farm Campsite or Glencote Caravan Park. It's free, obviously, and accessible year-round, though winter conditions can make the going slippery. Not worth a special journey on its own, but a pleasant enough diversion if you're exploring this corner of Staffordshire.
