You're ideally placed between city and countryside, with the Tanfield Railway adding steam-powered charm to family days out. The area's network of cycle paths and footpaths means you can leave the car behind and explore at a gentler pace, discovering war memorials and woodland trails that most visitors rush past on their way to more famous attractions.
