Batemans Brewery

Bateman's is a proper working brewery just outside Skegness, and it's one of those places that actually rewards a visit because you get to see beer being made rather than just drink the stuff. The brewery has been going since 1874, and they still do tours where you can watch the whole process from grain to glass - the smell alone is worth it. You'll see the mash tuns, the copper vessels, the lot. They've got a visitor centre too, though it's fairly no-nonsense rather than whizzy.

The on-site shop and café are decent enough for a quick stop, and if you're staying at any of the caravan parks nearby - Grange Farm is practically on the doorstep - you can pop over without much faffing about. Families with older kids who don't mind industrial settings will get something out of it. Younger children might find it a bit dull unless they're fascinated by machinery. Real ale enthusiasts should absolutely make the trip.

Best to ring ahead or check their website for tour times and what's included in admission - details are a bit thin on the ground, but they do run proper sessions rather than just letting people wander about. Allow a good hour and a half if you're doing a tour. It's not flashy, but it's genuine, and there's something quite satisfying about visiting a brewery that's actually brewing rather than serving as a theme park.
