Magdalen College Museum

A few miles inland from Skegness sits Magdalen College Museum, a proper quirky slice of Lincolnshire history that most seaside visitors completely miss. The museum occupies the former Magdalen College building - an old theological college that closed decades ago - and inside you'll find everything from Roman pottery shards to Victorian schoolroom furniture crammed into rooms that feel frozen in time.

It's genuinely absorbing if you're the type who enjoys local history. Religious artefacts, period costumes, agricultural tools, and handwritten letters from former students fill the display cases. There's nothing flashy about the presentation, which is partly its charm. You'll spend a solid hour here if you read the cards, maybe thirty minutes if you just wander through.

Families with older children (ten and up) will find it interesting enough, though younger kids might find it a bit dull without interactive elements. History enthusiasts will have the best time - this is the real stuff, not theme-park history. The building itself is worth the visit, with Victorian corridors and period rooms that give you a feel for college life a century ago.

It's perfectly positioned for a break from the beach mayhem. Grange Farm Campsite is practically on your doorstep if you're staying locally, while Skegness Seaview Caravan Park (5.5 miles away) puts you close enough for an afternoon visit.
