Brunt Hill

The walk up Brunt Hill is what you make of it - a straightforward pull through proper Perthshire countryside that rewards you with decent views across the Tay valley. It's not a dramatic peak, but on a clear day you can see right across to the Grampians, and that's worth the climb alone. The route itself is well-trodden and takes maybe an hour to the summit, so it's ideal if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Greenhill Farm Glamping or Gallowhill Caravan & Camping Park and want to stretch your legs without committing to a full day hike.

The appeal is straightforward. Walkers after something manageable will find it fits nicely between a morning stroll and a proper expedition. Families with teenagers can do it without complaint. The views from the top are genuinely impressive - moorland spreads out below you, and on clearer days the vista extends far enough to make the effort feel worthwhile. It's free to access, naturally, being a Scottish hill.

Timing matters here. Morning visits are best - the light is cleaner, and you'll have the place largely to yourself. Avoid it in thick cloud; it's just damp grass and disappointment then. Winter can be muddy and slippery, so autumn or early summer are your best bets. It sits close enough to Perth that you could combine it with exploring the town itself, or use it as a break between park activities. Not a destination in itself, but a genuinely decent addition to a Perthshire holiday that takes little more than a couple of hours from your accommodation.
