Carmodle

The walk up Carmodle rewards you with views that stretch across Fife towards the Tay estuary - nothing spectacular in height at just 282 metres, but proper rewarding given how little effort it actually takes. The summit itself is bare moorland, no fancy viewpoint platforms or benches, just you and the landscape. On a clear day you can see right across to the Sidlaws and beyond. Perth sits close enough that you could feasibly do this as a morning outing before heading into town for lunch.

This one's ideal for walkers who want something genuine but not soul-destroying. It's the kind of hill that takes forty minutes up, thirty minutes down, and leaves you feeling like you've actually accomplished something without eating up your whole afternoon. Families with kids aged eight and up will manage it fine - the paths are clear enough, though it can get boggy underfoot after rain so decent boots matter.

You won't find facilities up here, so bring water and something to eat if you plan to linger at the top. There's no entrance fee or visitor centre nonsense - it's just a walk you do. If you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Greenhill Farm or Fossoway, or camping at Gallowhill, this makes a cracking addition to a wider Fife exploration. It sits well alongside a longer park-based holiday - something to tick off on a decent weather day without derailing other plans.
