Warroch Hill

The walk up Warroch Hill takes about forty minutes from the base, and on a clear day you'll see right across Fife to the Forth. It's not dramatic - no jagged ridges or spectacular drops - but there's something satisfying about a proper hill that doesn't require climbing gear or a mountain guide.

The summit sits at a decent height without being punishing, making it ideal for families who've got walkers aged seven or eight and up. Younger kids might find the ascent tedious, though the views at the top usually do the trick for morale. The terrain is moorland and grassland, well-trodden enough that you won't lose the path, but bring good boots because it gets boggy after rain.

It's free, obviously - it's a hill. Allow two to three hours for the full outing if you're not racing. Go in May or September when the midges aren't quite so murderous and the light's kinder for photographs.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Greenhill Farm Glamping is closest at under three miles - this makes a cracking half-day break from camp. It's the kind of walk that gets everyone's legs tired without anyone complaining too much. Pair it with a proper pub lunch in Perth afterwards, and you've got a solid day. The bigger question is whether you'll find the peak worth the trip on its own, or whether you'd combine it with other Fife walks. Honestly, it's worth the drive if you're local to the area, but don't reroute your entire holiday around it.
