Myrehaugh

The walk up Myrehaugh rewards you with proper views across the Fife landscape, though it's not one of those peaks that stops you dead in your tracks. Located near Perth, this modest hill demands a decent trudge but nothing that'll leave you knackered for the rest of the day.

What you get is a local's hill rather than a tourist magnet. The summit itself is fairly exposed, which means decent 360-degree views on a clear day - you can see across toward the Ochils if the weather cooperates. The walk itself takes between 45 minutes and an hour depending on your pace and which route you take up.

Historically, this area was cattle-droving country, though Myrehaugh itself doesn't carry much in the way of obvious heritage. It's more about the walk than the destination, if I'm honest. Families with children aged eight-plus will manage it fine, though younger kids might find the ascent a slog. Serious hillwalkers will probably want something more challenging.

Free to access, naturally - it's open moorland. Best tackled on a dry day because the ground can be boggy in places. If you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Greenhill Farm or Maycroft Retreat, it's a straightforward morning outing before breakfast or an afternoon sortie. Combine it with a walk around one of the local forests or a visit to Perth itself for a proper day out. Worth doing if you're in the area, but don't rearrange your plans specially for it.
