Goldsborough

The walk up Goldsborough from Barnard Castle is straightforward fell terrain that doesn't require scrambling or technical bits, which makes it popular with families who've got decent legs on them. You're looking at roughly an hour to the summit depending on pace and fitness, with the main reward being proper panoramic views across Teesdale and the surrounding moorland. On a clear day you can see for miles.

It's not technically demanding, but it is a genuine climb - steep enough that younger kids might need encouragement near the top. The path itself is well-trodden and reasonably obvious, though boots are advisable after rain as it gets boggy in patches. Most people allow two to three hours for the round trip if they're stopping to eat a sandwich at the top, which absolutely feels earned.

Walkers will find this a cracking addition to a Teesdale trip, especially if you're basing yourself at one of the caravan parks near Barnard Castle - The Old Armoury, Doe Park, or Mickleton Mill are all within four miles. It pairs well with exploring the castle itself and the riverside walks lower down in the valley. The peak works best in spring and autumn when the weather's more predictable; winter can be grim if cloud rolls in, and midge season isn't ideal.
