About Mill of Gask
The fort dates to around AD 80 and was part of the Agricolan campaigns pushing north. You can still make out the defensive ditches and ramparts if you know what to look for, and there's something genuinely satisfying about standing where Roman soldiers stood nearly two thousand years ago. It's not flashy, and there are no visitor facilities or interpretation boards that I could find, so go prepared with a bit of research beforehand.
This is very much a walker's stop rather than a family destination - kids under twelve will likely lose interest after twenty minutes. Allow forty-five minutes if you want to properly examine the earthworks and take some photos. Given it's practically on Perth's doorstep, it slots nicely into a Perthshire holiday if you're camping at Broadslap Farm or one of the other sites nearby.
Timing matters. Visit on a clear day when low sunlight throws the earthworks into sharp relief - that's when the fort's layout really reveals itself. Soggy conditions and you'll struggle to see much distinction. Completely free and accessible.
