The walk up Rossie Law from Perth takes about forty minutes if you're moving steadily, and it's one of those Scottish hills that punches above its weight. It's not steep enough to be properly demanding, but high enough - 768 metres - that you feel like you've actually achieved something when you reach the summit. The views across Perthshire spread out properly from up there, with the Tay valley below and decent visibility into Fife on a clear day.

The approach isn't technical, but it does demand concentration in poor visibility. Come in autumn or early spring when the midges won't destroy you and the light stays decent for longer.

Families with teenagers who can handle a two-hour round trip will manage fine. Younger kids might find it a slog without the drama of a proper mountain. The lack of facilities on the hill itself means you'll want to sort yourself out in Perth before heading out.

It's free, obviously - it's a Scottish hill - and you need decent boots and a weather check before you go.
