Dod Hill

Standing at 486 metres, this fell offers one of the more manageable climbs near Windermere with genuinely rewarding views across the southern Lakes. The ascent from Troutbeck takes about an hour and a half, following a clear path that winds through bracken and past dry stone walls. It's proper fell walking without being too punishing.

Families with older children will find this a good introduction to Lake District peaks - steep enough to feel like an achievement but not so brutal that it puts anyone off walking for life. The summit provides excellent views towards Windermere and the central fells, though don't expect the drama of higher peaks like Helvellyn or Scafell Pike.
